Milk souring
in my fridge while I am
miles away, it doesn't
hold up against my
sour breath, rotting in my chest,
waiting for poems to come.

Your hair
falling around your shoulders
and your smile, your lips,
and your teeth.
I miss
your perseverance,
I'm hoping
you'll come back to me.

Come on
river dance,
fire thrower,
kiss me between the weeds
Come on and smoke with me
in my apartment,
let's go and watch the stars.
A thousand thoughts fill up your mind
when all you've been is
on my mind--
How can I tell you

The floods washed away
our sin and sanity--
spent the night
drinking
and driving through puddles
like standing lakes.
Our creek ran
over, I found
a fish
in the parking lot. For all of our
disaster training,
I never expected a flood.

You were
a perfect mouth
spilling perfect doubt,
delicate words that coiled out,
I wanted more than that--
I wanted arms and legs and
wanted your vanity,
wanted it wrapped around me,
like I was wearing sleeves and
your arms
went running
as we talked about
our needs, selfish wants
that we're supposed to figure out.

On a bus
doesn't feel quite the same as our train, I'm missing
her tonight, I miss her
a lot of times. I would take this bus
across the country
if only the country could promise me
that I'd
start over somewhere new.

I am sitting by the creek
watching the tubers as they pass
it is not my first summer, here
I doubt it will be my last. I'm looking
for another job but
I can't really quit my job right now
It's complicated.

I'm in love with a girl whom
I've never met but
I know she smells like
vegetable gardens, and in the
summer time she sweats.
We could bury ourselves in the heat
and meld our bodies together, glistening
while we share poetry and whiskey
under the radian sun.

My unmade bed knows
secrets I wouldn't choose to share
a lover's wants, that these
unmade sheets
are too thin to muffle. She screams
too loud, I'm trapped
in wanting and in
missing girls and curls and oh how her
guitar could sing.
